Spatial Sound Institute

In search of the connecting bridge from the dimensions of light to the universe of sound, Silke Fenna and Bram van Klink found their way to the newborn Syndicate of Sound and Space, formerly known as the Spatial Sound Institute. During this exchange, they worked on the highly conceptual vision of hosting a transdimensional entity called Holos, which paves the way for a holistic experience and brings a feeling of collectiveness to the work of all artists and residents. The displayed media portrays a single perspective view and sound of the spatial light and sound piece. When participants and audience are present in the space they experience the full spatiality of the system, which takes place in the x, y and z dimensions throughout the entire space. This is made possible by the 60-channel spatial sound system driven by the 4DSOUND engine creating a unique experience for each individual person present in the space.

The light system also represents the idea of Holos, by being able to work together with every artist. The lights are not just an addition to the sound, they are in fact a direct translation of the sound by showing the direction of the sound in a coherent form. Next to that it also shows the intentional brightness and colour the artist has evoked and composed together with the system and the space. In a way, you could say that the light system is in this way the eyes of Holos and the sound installation would be the voice
